A Few Of Our Reviews
”Nice stroll into town/ harbour”
”Very friendly people room always clean lovely breakfast of anything you want easy parking a nice stroll into town/ harbour and bus route on seafront glad we picked this guest house”
”Everything just right”
”Everything just right for a B&B stay and I appreciated the free wi-fi and the skimmed milk sachets for tea in the bedroom – just happen to be the type I like. To select just one of the other excellent aspects: quietness. This was in contrast to some other places nearby with a bar and blaring music. Many thanks to Ken, Isobel and daughter Ashley”
‘‘Everything you could want”
”Everything you could want from an efficiently run family b and b. Clean, comfy bed, pleasantly decorated en-suite room, deliciously freshly cooked breakfast by Ken, swiftly served by Ashleigh”

Two Night Torquay Stay Itinerary for Easy Breaks

Torquay is at its best when there is time to stop and enjoy it. A two night Torquay stay itinerary should not feel like a race between attractions. With the harbour, seafront, beaches and town centre close together, two nights give you enough time for proper sea air, good meals and a few favourite sights, while still leaving room to simply sit with a coffee and watch the bay.
Before you arrive: keep the plan simple
For a short break, a well-located guest house makes a real difference. Being able to park the car, check in, and walk towards the seafront without worrying about moving the car again takes a great deal of the effort out of a two-night stay. It also means one person in the party is not left as the designated driver every evening.
Pack for changeable Devon weather, even in summer. Comfortable walking shoes, a light waterproof and an extra layer will serve you well on the harbour and coastal paths. If you are travelling with children, a beach bag and towels are useful. If you are bringing a dog, check arrangements with your accommodation in advance and plan a few stops where everyone can stretch their legs.
It is tempting to book every meal and attraction before setting off. A couple of firm plans can be helpful during school holidays, but leave at least one part of each day open. A sunny morning may make a beach visit the obvious choice, while rain can be a good excuse for a museum, aquarium or long lunch instead.
Day one: arrive, settle in and enjoy the harbour
The first day is about easing into your break. If you arrive early enough, make the most of the afternoon, but do not try to fit in the whole town before dinner.
Afternoon: seafront stroll and Torre Abbey Sands
After checking in and dropping off your bags, head towards Torre Abbey Sands. It is a convenient place to begin because the promenade is level and easy to follow, with wide views across Tor Bay. On a warm day, bring a book, have an ice cream or simply take off your shoes for a walk along the sand.
From here, stroll along the seafront towards the harbour. The route gives you a feel for Torquay straight away: palm trees, colourful beach huts, boats on the water and plenty of places to stop for a drink. Families may prefer to spend longer at the beach, while couples and solo travellers may want to carry on at an unhurried pace.
If the weather is poor, swap the beach time for an indoor attraction nearby. There is no need to regard this as a wasted afternoon. Torquay has enough close by to make a wet-weather plan easy, and you can save the seafront for when the sky clears.
Evening: marina views and an easy dinner
By early evening, the harbour and marina are lively without being overwhelming. Walk around the inner harbour, look over the boats and choose somewhere for dinner that suits your mood and budget. There are casual options for fish and chips, pizza or a quick meal, as well as restaurants for a longer evening out.
Booking a table can be sensible on Friday and Saturday nights, especially in the warmer months. On quieter midweek breaks, you may prefer the freedom to see what takes your fancy after your walk.
After dinner, take the short walk back along the illuminated waterfront. This is one of the advantages of staying near the town centre and seafront: you can enjoy an evening out without a long journey back or the hassle of finding a parking space late at night. Back at your room, a comfortable bed and a quiet cup of tea are often all that is needed after travelling.
Day two: choose your Torquay highlight
Start with a good breakfast rather than rushing out the door. A full day is ahead, and a relaxed breakfast gives you the chance to decide what suits the weather and everyone’s energy levels.
Option one: Babbacombe and the coastal views
For classic coastal scenery, make Babbacombe your main outing. The views across Lyme Bay are broad and memorable, particularly on a clear day. Babbacombe Downs is a pleasant place for a gentle walk, with benches for anyone who would rather take in the view at a slower pace.
You can travel there by car, bus or taxi depending on what is easiest for your group. A car gives you more flexibility, but buses can be a useful choice if you want to avoid parking and both adults want to enjoy a drink with lunch. From Babbacombe, you might continue towards the model village, explore the shops and cafés, or simply have lunch overlooking the sea.
This option works especially well for mature holidaymakers, couples and anyone who wants a scenic day without committing to a demanding hike. The coast can be breezy, so bring that extra layer even when Torquay itself feels warm.
Option two: harbour attractions and a beach afternoon
If you would rather stay closer to town, spend the morning around the harbour. The area is easy to explore on foot, and there is plenty to fill a few hours at a comfortable pace. Families often enjoy a visit to the aquarium, while visitors interested in local history may prefer a museum or gallery.
For lunch, eat near the harbour before choosing an afternoon beach. Meadfoot is a good choice for a quieter feel and attractive views, although the walk has some hills. Torre Abbey Sands is more convenient if you want level access and nearby facilities. Which one is best depends on the group: young children may appreciate the easier access, while confident walkers may enjoy the more tucked-away character of Meadfoot.
If the weather is glorious, do less. A short boat trip, a swim or a few hours on the sand can be a better holiday memory than ticking off one more attraction. Torquay rewards a slower pace.
Your final evening: make it feel like a holiday
For your second evening, choose the kind of meal you do not usually make time for at home. It could be local seafood by the harbour, a relaxed pub supper or simply takeaway enjoyed back at the guest house after a busy day. There is no wrong answer when you have already had a full day outside.
If you still have energy, return to the marina for a final walk. The changing light over the bay is reason enough, and it is a pleasant way to end the main part of your break. For guests staying at a family-run base such as Tor Dean Guest House, the practical comforts matter here too: free parking, Wi-Fi, an en-suite room and a welcoming place to return to make a short trip feel properly restful.
The final morning: leave time for one last stop
Do not treat departure morning as an afterthought. After breakfast and checking out, you may have time for one final walk along the seafront, a browse around the town centre or a stop at a café before heading home.
If your route allows, pause at Cockington on the way out of Torquay. Its village setting, country park and easy paths offer a quieter contrast to the busy harbour. It is particularly useful if you are travelling with a dog or want to stretch your legs before a longer drive.
A two-night break will never show you every corner of the English Riviera, and that is part of its charm. Leave a few things for next time, take home the sea air and the harbour views, and enjoy the fact that your itinerary had space to breathe.
